At Karen’s Home – The Beginning of a Learning Game

Karen, 82, has experienced repeated falls, confusion, and loss of appetite — signs that daily life at home is no longer safe without support. A community nurse meets Karen for the first time. During the visit, the principles of comprehensive geriatric assessment are applied. It’s also time for a medication review, a key step in ensuring safe and effective care.
This spring, we’ll be ready to pilot the course. Today, the Finnish project team gathered to design the scenario for the upcoming learning game — and had a great time doing it!
This scenario forms the starting point for a new learning game, where nursing students can practice geriatric assessment and decision-making to support safe care for older adults.
Participants in the workshop included Sini Eloranta, Susanna Mört, and Nina Korsström from Turku University of Applied Sciences; Heli-Maria Huusko and Hannele Tuori from the Hospital District of Southwest Finland; and game development expert Jani Leskinen from Fynd Reality.
